Animal Law

Animal Law includes any type of legal action, whether it is transactional or litigation, that affects the rights, standing and/or welfare of an animal. It is a new area of the law where sparse pro-animal case and statutory law exists in terms of defining, establishing and protecting the welfare of animals.

Animal Law varies from litigation issues involving incidents of wrongful death, animal abuse, veterinarian medical malpractice, animal activism, Constitutional Rights protections, defense at dangerous dog hearings, products liability litigation against companies that injure or kill animals with their products, pet custody disputes and transactional issues such as drafting estate planning documents and trusts.

I am committed to practicing and advancing the law in such a way as to provide the most protections available to animals and the most recourse available to those who make animals an integral part of their lives, whether this is as a pet owner, an equestrian, a rancher, a conversationalist or a conservation biologist. In practicing Animal Law, I specialize in using specialized tools that the legal system provides to give animals a voice in both the litigation and transactional forums. My practice focuses on preventing injury to animals and also making entities accountable for injury to animals and animals' rights. My specialty in Animal Law and my background in the biological sciences gives me a unique understanding that animals and their guardians have special needs. I understand the love that exists between a pet and his or her life guardian.
